After months and months failed attempts to go my sister and i finally ventured off to see the #Melbourne Now exhibition which is located in the NGV and also the Ian Potter Centre on Federation Square.
"Melbourne Now celebrates the latest art, architecture, design, performance and cultural practice to reflect the complex cultural landscape of creative Melbourne."
It was so good to see so many different pieces of art, so creative yet some were so personal. The exhibition showcased 175 individual and group presentations.
Some of my favourites were
- S-O-M-E-O-N-E : Laith McGregor | this was created using pencils and pens recording McGregors thoughts and doodlings which i thought was incredibly interesting and this was inspired by Picasso's Guernica

- iProtest : Penny Byrne | This artwork was so smartly made, from afar it looks cute like little miniature dolls but when you look closely each figure is marked with details relating to current and past conflicts.
- At Home with the Hotham Street Ladies : Hotham Street Ladies | I don't think i know anyone who wouldn't like this installation, everything was made out of icing, from the Picasso on the wall to the carpet on the floor. Maybe those tho don't have a sweet tooth wouldn't like this one, but everyone has a little bit of a sweet tooth. (:
- Untitled : Stephen Bram | I have such a weakness for simple white designs so this one definitely made the cut. It was designed with two or three vanishing points beyond the frame, showing the viewer different perspectives of space.
- A Garden Of Parallel Paths : Daniel Crooks | This video is both puzzling and also amazing. This takes you through the streets of Melbourne through the Alleyways but it's visually appealing because it changes streets and it looks like an illusion.
- Don't Worry : Mark Hilton | Hilton used art to show a deeply personal memory which explores the transition from childtood to highschool and all the complications.
- You ask me about that country : Sangeeta Sandrasegar | this stencil work was really good and intricate and so subtle, it was beautiful.
Thanks for reading.
